SALLY

Sally trained as a dancer and choreography for 20 years in Australia. She studied at Newtown School of the Performing Arts, then for a BA in Contemporary Dance at University of Western Sydney. She then went on to perform with Cell 66b dance company in Tokyo, and also choreographed contemporary dance pieces in Sydney in the late 90’s.

Sally discovered Pilates at Leeon and Shaw Pilates Studio in Sydney, whilst recovering from a shoulder injury, and was immediately drawn to the method’s approach to the body and improving it's function.

After completing her Pilates training in 2004 with the Pilates Foundation at Trinity Laban Conservatoire London, Sally taught at Trinity Laban Pilates Studio, as well as Hoxton Square Pilates Studio in London. She also taught on the Laban post graduate One Year Programme 'Pilates for Dance' course for 6 years, the Laban Summer School for 7 years, and on Cando Co dance company’s One Year program for 2 years.

Sally has also worked with the National Childbirth Trust, giving talks about pre and post natal Pilates and exercise. This particularly became an area of interest for her, more so since having children of her own.

Sally has recently returned to the U.K. from being back in Australia for 2 years. Whilst in Sydney, Sally had the good fortune to work with the wonderful teams at both Evolution Pilates Annandale, and Yoganic Willoughby.

In her 11 years experience as a pilates teacher, Sally has had experience teaching a broad range of clients of all ages and abilities. These include pre and postnatal clients, those with musculoskeletal conditions, osteoporosis, recovering from surgery, injury and strokes, as well as clients wanting to improve their dance/athletic ability and general well being.

Sally has begun a new chapter in her Pilates career by recently establishing Sevenoaks Pilates Studio in Sevenoaks, Kent.

ESTHER

Esther first became interested in Pilates through her own experience with injury during her dance training. She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre at Laban in 1998 . A year later, after spine surgery, Pilates, as well as massage became invaluable in the rehabilitation process and long term prevention of further damage.

Esther became interested in the treatment and prevention of injury and she went on to study at the London School of Sports Massage. She has worked as a sports and remedial masseur for many years in a variety of places, from hotel spas to back stage in the West End. Her focus has always been on the management of injury and she worked for many years as a masseur for The Urdang Academy and later, Trinity Laban and The Royal Ballet.

She returned to study at Trinity Laban in 2004 on the Pilates Foundation Teacher Training Programme and taught Pilates in a number of London studios and physiotherapy clinics thereafter. Pilates became a perfect combination with the deep tissue massage she had specialised in over the years and she treated many injuries through correcting anatomical imbalances and looking at movement patterns. Part of the process was to equip the client with the knowledge and skills to manage their injury themselves by looking at the cause in their individual bio-mechanics and working towards prevention in the longer term. Unsurprisingly, bad backs became her strength.

Over the years of studying, treating and teaching, Esther also developed an interest in anatomy and physiology and took over this aspect for the Pilates Foundation training course at Trinity Laban.

Taking a break to have a family, she returned to work with new classes in pre and post-natal Pilates. Again, Pilates proved invaluable in supporting her pregnancies and post-natal recovery and she enjoys sharing this experience with new mums. She completed the Pilates Foundation post graduate diploma in pre and post natal Pilates and has attended specialist workshops on pelvic floor health and diastasis recti recovery.
